Last Week’s Client of the Week!
Hey San Antonio,
I had tons of computer issues at home (again) and never got around to posting, but once again, Courtney is the client of the week! She lost another couple of inches on her abdominal circumference (in 2 weeks) and is down upwards of 15% body fat since she started her personal training program.
Her progress CONSTANTLY amazes!
Great job Courtney!

San Antonio Personal Trainer Blog: Today’s Topics
Hey San Antonio,
I have a few ideas that I’m going to post about later:
-Fitness “Promises” (This TIME I WILL lose weight…)
-Client of the Week
-Workout of the Day
-Importance of hydration (has been beaten to death, but be very aware of it in this heat)
-Tragic Endings (Passing of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcet yesterday)
I am planning on including everything in one mega-post, but there’s a chance I might break it up into several different posts.
Busy, busy day today, but I’ll post later!
Own the day, control your body!

Thanks San Antonio!
Hey San Antonio,
Since the relaunch of the Personal Trainer in San Antonio Blog a couple of months ago, it has already made it’s way to the first page of all major search engines and has over 500 unique hits per day (several days it has reached way over 1000).
I receive several emails each day about the content on the site, and most of them mention how they enjoy the no nonsense approach to nutrition, training, fat loss, body transformation, personal training and motivation. I’m not on here claiming that there are these mysterious secrets and I’m not pushing some bs supplement or piece of equipment. I AM pushing people to make a decision to get off of their rears and to think of healthier activities and eating smarter than they currently are.
I’ve had several personal trainers email me and tell me that they really appreciate my approach to business – teach clients what to do so they can do it on their own as soon as possible. PT’s, trust me, it is great for business. My business is a business of referrals. How I do I get referrals? I take care of people and get them the most progress in the quickest amount of time. I’ve built a reputation of having the ability to help people look their best for a wedding, vacation, reunion, etc. I also have a reputation of helping people change their lifestyles, live better and healthier. THESE are the reasons I have made fitness and nutrition my profession.
Again, thank you for making this site a success. I will strive to continue to write informative articles, add healthy recipes and keep the training and nutrition articles coming.
Also, feel free to add me to your Twitter!

Don’t Sweat the Petty Stuff…
Hey San Antonio,
I enjoy reading many fitness newsletters, message boards and talking with many people about nutrition and training. It’s funny, but for some reason, people lose sight of the big picture and focus on some very trivial details, yet they convince themselves that an extra microgram here or 2 minutes there will be the edge they need to make incredible progress.
I don’t obsess over minute details. Hard work is the main ingredient. Knowledge and progression are right there alongside effort. Yes, doing just any old workout program and doing what you may think is “eating right” won’t guarantee you amazing progress and success. The newest miracle supplement isn’t going to be the difference in having 6 pack abs versus having a gut on the beach during the 4th of July.
It has to be a lifestyle change. It has to be consistent. There are steps you HAVE to take, and the more people I talk to, the more I realize that people aren’t doing what they need to do. Their workouts are a mess and their bodies aren’t fueled for training and geared for fat loss. In short, they’re wasting time and simply spinning their wheels.
Don’t be confused – stop guessing if what you’re doing is working and KNOW your workouts and effort are making a difference. Let nothing hold you back…
We are simply the best at what we do – it isn’t easy, but it’s worth every ounce of effort…

San Antonio Personal Trainer Horror Stories
Hey San Antonio,
I’ve mentioned some of these before and have written about them, but I heard a couple them today. So bad, that I don’t even care to mention them. There are some things that you should reasonably expect when you find a personal trainer. Your body and attitude should change. You should not end up seriously injured or nearly crippold.
The lack of regulation in this career field would be startling to the average person. It takes a little more than a heartbeat to obtain most certifications, most trainers have little or no college and even fewer have more than a year or more experience. I say a year because few of them know what they’re doing enough to actually sustain and make a living at this job. Most hang around long enough to realize that it takes more than the latest article in a magazine to help people change their lives. 24 hours of support are sometimes needed. Is it babysitting? Maybe, but if that’s what a client needs to find success, than so be it.
You need a personal trainer that you can trust and that has a track record of success. Don’t waste your time, health or money on a sub-par trainer. Get the results you DESERVE.

Monday’s Squat Workout
Hey San Antonio,
Had an hour time slot open today that I don’t usually have, so I tore up the squat rack ;)
Here’s a quick breakdown of today’s workout and projected eating.
Morning – English Muffin, egg whites, ham
Workout
squats
225×10x5 sets
405×10x5 sets
Pull thrus
Stack x 20 x 5 sets
GHR
20 reps x 5 sets
Post-workout
Protein blend + oats
I’ll have one more carb meal, cut carbs at noon, and all meals after that will be protein + healthy fats. My bodyfat has dropped quite a bit since my underwear show a few weeks ago, but my weight is up which is a good sign (gaining muscle mass).
I’ll also hit 45 minutes of cardio around 7. Blah.
Drastic results require drastic measures…
Make your day GREAT! Start your fat loss and body transformation goals today!

SA Personal Trainer News, Client of the Week
Hey San Antonio, and Happy Father’s Day weekend! Peyton and I have lots of fun plans!
I’ve been incredibly busy this week, and this intense heat has wiped me out. Or maybe it’s the intense cardio and carb cut offs early. I’m experimenting with a few different carb cycling strategies to see how I react physically (and mentally). Thank God for caffeine to keep me sane.
The Client of the Week was once again a TOUGH but a FUN choice. Courtney has lost like 5 pounds this week with some simple diet changes. Paula and Cathy are WELL on course and have lost several bf% points.
But this week I have to go with Ryan. Ryan’s a Senior Running Back from Stockdale High School and this kid is going to be unstoppable this year. He’s lightning fast and is getting stronger every single workout. His dead lift, squat, and bench press are going through the roof. Athletic training is quite different than training for fat loss and body transformation, and I’m having a lot of fun training this guy. Local 2A high school defenses, look out!
Congrats Ryan – keep it up!

Fat Loss Progress
Hey San Antonio,
I just wanted to take a second to wish someone who is very dear to me congratulations on their progress – my mother Dottie. I just received an email from her letting me know she has lost 10lbs, and I’m very proud of her and her decision to make healthy eating and being active a part of her lifestyle. No gimmicks, no pills, no “lose weight fast” bs programs. She’s just following much of the information I write here on my blog. She lives in rural southeastern Kentucky, but if she lived here, I’d have her in here at my personal training studio bright and early 3-4 days per week!
Congrats, momma! I love you!

Countdown is ON. 18 Days…
Hey San Antonio,
What a weekend… Lots of sunshine and things I love about Texas: the Hill Country, water, and just riding around in my Jeep with the doors and top off, smiling, burning the hell up. :D
After my first stint as a model last Friday night, I’m finding that I actually don’t mind wearing next to nothing in front of large crowds at all ;)! Much more enjoyable than bodybuilding, IMO. I’m now 18 days out from a swimsuit show (I’m the only guy in it, no thong, I swear).
The next 18 days will be challenging, but I’m ready. Intense lifting 3x per week, cardio 6 days per week (2 times per day on off days), and cutting carbs out (replacing them with healthy fats) very early in the day. I’m going to refeed at Day 9, so I should be getting good and cranky in a week and a half. Thank God for caffeine (and sleep). I stayed lean after my last show, so this prep will be much easier. The workouts, like all of my workouts, will be brutal. But I should go in at a very low level of body fat with all of my lean body mass preserved.
Making a drastic change in your body doesn’t have to be THIS intense. Sure, there are times when going hardcore (when you’re a few weeks out from being bare in front of a crowd) is necessary, but understand that I stay lean all year round, even when I’m focusing on adding muscle. It’s a lifestyle. It’s NOT the easy path, but what in life that is worth a damn is easy?
The body is adaptive and very resilient. It can take a beating and keep coming back. But killing one’s self isn’t the secret to changing. Progressing, working hard, and being disciplined are what you’ll need to change. Quality workouts (not quantity) are what will make you look the way you believe you can.
Never settle – if there’s something in life you want: the body, the job, the money, the girl, the car, the home, the security, the health, etc, you have to be willing to go and get it…

That Workout Will Not Change Your Body!
Hey San Antonio,
So, which workout program or diet will work for you? Everyone is different – we all have different levels of experience, different life situations, different temptations, different strengths and weaknesses. So instead of obsessing on little things, think of the big picture.
To make progress, you have to have these things:
-Consistency. If you don’t regularly (and I mean VERY regularly) eat the way you should, you won’t make progress. A cheat meal every day or every 2-3 days will kill you. Missing a workout every other week? Poison.
-Progression. You have to continually work harder, get stronger, and push it more and more each and every time you’re in the gym. This is the stimulus for change. The only easy workout is the last one.
-Intensity. Don’t be one of those people who can have a full conversation WHILE training. You should be busting your ass, not socializing.
-Think lifestyle. Why workout, make progress and stop? This is a long term thing. Changes don’t come overnight, but they do come.
-Unwavering. Don’t look for reasons or excuses to cheat – you’re only cheating yourself. Like eating, sleeping and spending time with family, the lifestyle has to be a commitment.
-Knowledge. What to do and how to do it can be daunting. Start learning and never stop.
-Change it up. Doing the same thing over and over will not work for long. Your body adapts quickly, so you have to change it up regularly.
You WILL make progress. Don’t think you can’t lose fat and you can’t make progress. But there are NO shortcuts.
