Thank you, Boyd! Thank you does not even begin to describe the gratitude I have for Boyd. I never had a great work out foundation. I have played sports and been military so I was never out of shape but I just never really had the knowledge base. I have done it all, crossfit, kickboxing and have even been a coach/trainer at a kickboxing gym. I have an understanding of nutrition as I am medical but never in relation to exercise. I have always been that person that knows if you cut carbs and calories then you can lose weight. I never understood how to build muscle through nutrition.

When I moved to San Antnonio, I decided I wanted to get a trainer but I also wanted someone that would teach me the why not just give me a laundry list of what to do. Boyd has been so patient with me and my million questions. I have learned so much from him. He has definately pushed me to do far more than I ever thought I would.

Like he said, I had a million and one reasons to give up during this time but I did not see any of them as a reason to give up at the time. I was driven to make everything fit somehow and to make it work. This is a theme in all of Boyd's clients, I am not special here. If you want great things you have to work for them.

Now, I am ready to make improvements and continue to grow with Boyd's guidance. He knows his stuff, #nobroscience.

So, since I'm going through this now, I can give the costs off the top of my head. Besides how much it costs to train with Boyd and gym fees etc, you have to pay for two nights of hotel which depends on where the venue is, mine was about $400 for two rooms. The spray tan and bikini bite was $125. My suit was $650. Shoes $50. Hair and makeup is $75-$140 depending on which service you use. Registration is $85 for my show. NPC registration is $150. Food is about $150/week. Supplements are about $175 a month. Water is expensive, I won't post because my husband would flip out. Waxing before the show is about $250 if you get a full body wax, otherwise have someone there to shave every part of your body. Nails need to be done too

It is so very important to follow your dreams! A great book to read is Fearless by Max Lucado. As a Christian I believe we have to step out on faith, and though the road to doing what you believe in your heart you should do may not be easy, it will be the ultimate reward!

I just wanted to say I found this article to be very informative. I was out of shape and wanted to try something that worked. I know there is no magic pill or get fit quick scheme that would work but I saw so many people getting results with p90x I decided to try it. I must say that after doing the program I fell a little humiliated and like a failure. I did lose weight. In fact I lost 17 lbs when I did it and basically got to the "healthy" weight I'm supposed to be for my height/age. But the first comment you posted stung me a little bit. "You will still have the same bird chest." That's exactly how I felt. I lost weight but I wasn't ripped. Still had a bird chest and no abs. The only real difference I saw was in my arms and back muscles. It seems if you come out anywhere and say that you didn't get results then people will bash you and say "you didn't bring it" or you probably didn't follow the nutrition. I can honestly tell you I follwed everything to the "T", didn't cheat with the nutrition and did the workouts. I guess my question to you is what can I do to get ripped? I know eating healthy is a big part but is the exercising part just to keep upping the weight I lift? Thanks for your informative blog.

Excellent article.
P90X, Insanity, Zumba, etc= poor physical program without a straight line of exercise science and the worst they are not guided by any professional of the physical education.
The good thing is that they have an AMAZING marketing focus on people uneducated/ignorant who don't know anything about Sports training, Strength, Conditioning and Fitness.

Great, but a little dis-heartening article. I've read most of the comments and I apologize in advance if you have already answered this question.

I'm a fitness novice, who like many people has struggled with my 'yo-yo' weight. As much as I would like to hire a personal trainer, the reality is not all of us have the means to do so.

So, my first question is, [I read you've gone through the P90X program] have you also gone through Insanity program?
Second question, would you recommend one over the other?
